A summertime visit to a coastal lavender garden was such a delightful experience I was inspired to grow my own lavender flowers at my home near Green Bluff. From a simple cow pasture overlooking the scenic Peone Prairie, Fleur de Provence Lavender has grown and now produces a variety of lusciously scented lavender. Several varieties, Grosso, Hidcote Giant, and Provence provide beautiful stems that can be enjoyed fresh, dried or in aromatic sachets. My personal favorites are the Angustiflolias. Richly scented with beautiful flowers of different colors, they provide culinary delights as well.

Lavender is one of the most beloved and useful herbs in the garden. An ancient plant with a rich history, lavender has long been used for medicinal purposes, in aromatherapy, and in the yard and garden for its beauty. An easy to grow perennial, lavender is drought and deer resistant.

Lavender harvest begins in July with u-pick visitors winding their way through rows of flowers, delighting in the purple blossoms, the enduring fragrance, and the hard working honeybees. Treat yourself to a wonderful experience!
